State

On the reverse side, the panel was reinforced on its perimeter by large pieces of wood, forming parquet. Vertical slit affecting the center of the panel that led to a lifting of the pictorial layer at the level of the virgin and the child on the front.

Pictorial surface and gold background: Visible wear, lifts and restorations, mainly along the central slot.

Original ogival arrated shape frame, restorations in the gilding. Also original, the pastiglia ornament of the arcade and punched haloes.

Registrations

On the base, in Gothic letters repainted on a cartridge with a red background surrounded by an original golden punched ornament: AVE GRATIA PLENA DNS (dominus)

On the back, in the upper part, stencil ink mark of an old Christie’s “034 CW” sale.
