Saint Roch is one of the emblematic figures of the faith much appreciated by the court of the Spanish Bourbons. In Peru he is invoked against diseases and revered as the patron of surgeons. The imposing format of this canvas reveals the importance given to this figure represented here dressed in a rich embroidered coat enhanced with gold just like that of the angel who accompanies him on his right.
