Charles-François Grenier de Lacroix, called Lacroix de Marseille, was a marine painter who had a great reputation during his lifetime. Inspired by his teacher, the famous painter, Claude-Joseph Vernet from the Vernet dynasty, Lacroix found his own clientele by imbuing his works with fine details enlivening scenes of daily life.

He is known to have traveled a lot during his career, even though exact dates remain to be determined.
